Buses

Buses operate throughout Victoria, in country towns and in Melbourne. The after hours Night Rider service also operates from metropolitan Melbourne on Friday and Saturday nights. Tours buses are also available with special sightseeing services, which provide detailed commentary of the attractions along the way.

City Circle Tram

The City Circle Tram travels around the city and links with other tram, train and light rail routes in and around Melbourne. To catch the free City Circle Tram service, just wait at any of the specially marked stops on the route. Trams run in both directions every twelve minutes, seven days a week between 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. During daylight saving extending hours, they run from 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. every Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The City Circle tram service does not run during the Christmas Day or Good Friday holidays.

On Foot

The most economic way to get around Melbourne's city centre is on foot! As most attractions and destinations are within close proximity to each other, they are easily accessible by foot.

Taxis

Taxis are all in bright yellow, making them easy to spot. Taxi fares begin with A$2.80, with an additional A$1.07 for every kilometre. The average fare for a trip from the airport to the city is usually under A$45.00. To be on the safe side, you can book a taxi on the telephone.

Trains

The country and suburban train services offer travel across Victoria or across Melbourne. Regular services are available from metropolitan and country stations, providing a fully accessible public transport service. Flinders Street Station is the hub of Melbourne's train system with all trains beginning or ending their journey there.

Trams

Melbourne's world famous trams have been helping people travel around the city for more than a century, and are one of the prettiest ways to see Melbourne. They travel along most of the city's major thoroughfares, including Melbourne's main boulevard, St Kilda Road. City trams stop at every intersection and suburban trams stop every two or three blocks, extending out to about 15km into the suburbs.
