![]() Somerset Al Fateh, ManamaTransportationBusesBus services in Bahrain are limited so most people choose to drive or take a taxi. Saudi-Bahraini Transport Company (Sabatco) services a regular bus route from Dahran to Manama, although there are other routes across the island. The bus fares are low but bus routes and schedules are difficult to find. Car RentalThe majority of Bahrain's roads are paved and in very good condition, making travelling by car an excellent way to discover Bahrain. There are dozens of local car hire companies in Manama, as well as a handful of international rental agencies with desks at the airport. Radio TaxisRadio taxis are available by pre-booking and strictly go by the meter, though little higher than normal local taxis, they are a hassle-free way to travel. Fare Receipts can be obtained on request.
TaxisOfficial taxis are recognisable by their orange and white or orange and gold colour. They can be hailed in the street or caught from a taxi rank; these are often situated outside shopping malls and major hotels. Taxis flagged down outside a hotel will be more expensive than on the street. It is wise to travel with a map and insist on the driver using the meter.
*Between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., the fares are BD 1.200 for the first kilometre and 150 fils for every additional kilometre there after. There is an additional charge of BD 1.000 if you are hiring a taxi from the airport. |
