Buses

There is an intricate inter-city bus system, so it is best to get the bus guide and map from hawkers outside the train stations and hotels.

• Average charge: Fares range from 1 RMB for ordinary and 2 RMB for air-con bus.

Mass Rail Transit (MRT)

The Number 1 and 2 lines are open to the public running from 6:00 a.m. – 11:30 p.m. Tickets are purchased at the gates or the fare card systems.

• Operating hours: 6:00 a.m. – 11.30 p.m.
• Average charge: Fares range from 2 RMB – 7 RMB, depending on the length of the journey.

Taxis

Taxis are common and are a good and safe way of getting around for non-Chinese speaking visitors. Destinations can be written down for the driver. Around 30 RMB should get you where you want to go. Taxis can be hired for a single trip or chartered on an hourly or daily basis.

• Operating hours: 24 hours.
• Average charge: The base price is 7 RMB with the additional 2.6 RMB – 2.8 RMB charge per kilometer, depending on the size of the taxi. The rate is displayed on a sticker in the right rear window of the taxi.
