AttractionsHuangyaguan PassOne of the most well known attractions in Tianjin is the Huangyaguan Mountain Pass of the Great Wall. It is situated at the mountainous northern part of Tianjin's northern Jixian County. First built about 1,400 years ago, and restored in 1987, this section stretches some 40km. It looks just like a giant dragon, winding its way through high mountain ridges and deep valleys. Shuishang "Water" ParkShuishang Park is another famous scenic spot in Tianjin. Its location was called "Qing long tan" – the black dragon's pool. The vigor-overflowing greens – green trees, green grass, green lotus, greet the eye everywhere. If getting a bird's eye view, one may see that pieces of emerald greens are floating on the dragon's pool. Therefore, Shuishang Park gains the elegant name "Longtan Fu Cui". The Dule TempleThe Dule Temple, located in the western part of Jixian County, Tianjin's northern suburb, was built over one thousand years ago during the Tang Dynasty and rebuilt in 1984. Guanyi Pavilion, the main structure in the temple complex, stands 23 metres high. It is one of the oldest timber-structured pavilions existing in China. After 1,000 years of weathering and 28 earthquakes, it still remains intact. The Hai RiverThe Hai River traverses the busiest sections of Tianjin city. Along the river, tourists can see the skylines of the modern city as well as the western style buildings constructed between 1860 and 1940. The two world-famous grand buildings are the Wanghailou Church and the Tianjin Railway Station. The church, first built in 1869, is the relic of well-known "Tianjin Church Case" of Chinese modern history. Tianjin Railway Station, the former "Laolongtou Railway Station", was first built in 1888 and reconstructed in 1987. The most famous scene on the river is called "Gushui Liuxia". Gushui is the river's ancient name; Liuxia means the flowing rosy clouds. The Middle Ring RoadThe middle ring road is the key road of Tianjin. Along the wide, clear road there are high interchange bridges and river-crossing bridges, various styles of structures and sculptures, poetry and painting-like gardens. When over-looked from high altitude, the ring road looks like a colourful silk belt. So, Tianjinese selected it as one of the ten most famous views in their city, and gave it the name "colourful silk-belt-like middle ring-road". |
